Project reference Kalsbeek college in Woerden (Utrecht)

Planet Safe Ltd has, in collaboration with the Province of Utrecht, built a testing facility on the roofs of the Kalsbeek College in Woerden. The school was in need of new roofing and also had major problems with temperature control inside the school. The performance of both students and teachers were negatively affected by this.

The province of Utrecht is very active in the field of climate and energy projects and saw this as a possibility to compare the Roofclix ® System to other (heat resistant) roofing. A big advantage of Roofclix ® is that it is not only able to keep the heat out, but is also able to let the internal heat escape.

The effect of the reflective power of Roofclix ® is tested here on various types of solar collectors. The trial will run simultaneously with a more comprehensive testing facility at the University of Utrecht.

The pilot projects should give comparible insights,  through measurements, into temperature control, noise reduction, energy savings (cooling and heating load), energy generation (reflection), durability (Roofclix ® 50 years) and reduction of CO2 emissions and climate control (urban temperature).

The testing facilities at the Kalsbeek College and the HU are also part of the curriculum of the schools to get students directly involved in obtaining insights and solutions of dealing with a, nowadays, big social problem. At the Kalsbeek College and the HU, they are already convinced of the benefits of the Roofclix ®, before measurements are even made. The Roofclix ® are placed on certain classrooms and on other, connecting, classrooms they have not been placed yet.  The temperature difference during the recent very warm period (summer 2010) was clearly noticeable.
