Because of the cavity layer, Roofclix® roofing tiles are a unique solution for excessive heat build up inside buildings (graph 1). First of all Roofclix® repels heat radiation, from outside, through the roof. Secondly internal heat built up by people and equipment, can escape through the roof. The outside roofing layer is shaded by the Roofclix® system and therefore has the shade temperature of that moment (shade temperature is the maximum temperature weather forecasts predict on a daily basis). No other roofing material directly connected to the roof is capable of doing this. Even white roofing materials still heat up to at least 400 Celsius, meaning that the temperature inside the building has to build up to more than 400 Celsius before internal heat can escape through the roof.

 

Increasing the R value of roof insulation limits the speed at which heat may enter the building, but also prevents internal heat build up from escaping to the outside. The clear advantage of this saving on heating in wintertime (approximately 4 months a year), doesn’t add up to the disadvantages of cooling in warmer periods (approximately 6 months a year). Cooling costs lots more in terms of energy and requires the most maintenance-intensive equipment. The advantage of saving energy inside buildings with a high internal heat build up does not compare to the extra costs of cooling or the loss of comfort and the accompanying loss of performance by those using the building e.g. personnel or students. By applying the Roofclix® system savings can be made even in existing situations.
